Shade (Mini Dv, 21min, Color, 2015)

Co-directed with partner, Julian Tran. We explored making a serious film with non serious equipment and non-actors. We followed nearly exactly the basic tenants of Lars Von Triers “Dogme 95 Manifesto” of filmmaking based on the traditional values of story, acting, and theme, and excluding the use of elaborate special effects or technology. We found the “actors” at a grocery store, a restaurant and in our family. We coached them for months and then filmed for 5 days non-stop under rigorous conditions.
