Part documentary, part video essay, this film tells a story about Yetta Ballenberg, the first Jew in the narrator's family to leave Europe for America in the 19th century. The film explores the place Yetta lived and left, in southwest Germany, but also explores themes of place, not only for Jews but for any group who has effectively always already been without an exact home. The film itself is excerpted from a larger film (forthcoming) which follows the narrator's story as she herself, must leave her home seeking a new place, possibly to reconnect with a mythological, historical figure from her cultures' collective past.
